Service Descriptions

Access Montana provides service throughout a diverse geographical area. In order to provide services to the areas within, we utilize multiple platforms. Some are wireless, most are wireline, but they vary within the two categories as well. Some services require
a site visit for verification of serviceability. Even if your neighbor has service from Access Montana, that does not guarantee you can receive the same service. Always contact our main office with questions regarding serviceability at 406-676-3300.

Network Performance

Access Montana provides service over a number of platforms. Similar speed packages from one platform to the next will vary in maximum bandwidth and latency. Maximum bandwidth is provisioned for each subscriber at our equipment but some services will
allow for more than the subscribed rate at times of low utilization. Latency is typically lowest on Fiber, then DSL/Cable, and Fixed Wireless is generally slightly higher than DSL/Cable but all fall easily within guidelines for broadband services. All of this is based
on measurements using an unloaded connection and will vary in actual use. A customer may utilize a speed testing site to measure their connection capabilities but must keep in mind that they are measuring available bandwidth for that device connection only, not
necessarily the capacity of the connection. There are many factors that can affect this, including but not limited to: other device usage, device limitations, wireless limitations, local wireless interference, ethernet cable/port limitations, as well as general device/hardware conditions.

Some services are affected by limitations such as total distance from our equipment. In these instances, a customer may be able to attain a rate that falls between two tiers of  service. If a customer wishes to subscribe to the higher tier of service and receive what bandwidth they can there will not be any guarantees, implied or otherwise, of that next tier of service.

Impact of Non-BIAS Data Services

Non-Broadband Internet Access Service (Non-BIAS) is provided in some instances by Access Montana for some Voice-over-Internet-Protocol (VoIP) as well as Internet Protocol Video service (IPTV). Depending on the platform these are served over, these services may share internet bandwidth over the last-mile customer network. Because these are real-time services, Access Montana has measures in place to provide them with the bandwidth and priority necessary perform as intended. In most cases, this will not affect other internet services shared on a customer connection, but in heavy use particularly with IPTV streams, could.
